OUP Archives

Research Visits

Oxford University Press welcomes archival researchers interested in the history of OUP and its publications. Please contact us to discuss your research and how we might help you.

The Archive team are happy to advise on matters of Press history, including print history, book history, and the history of the Oxford English Dictionary and other Oxford dictionaries. A discretionary 30-year closure period on unpublished material in the collection is in place. Any research visits must be booked in advance by agreement with the Archivists.

Researchers are hosted by our colleagues in OUP’s in-house library which has limited space for external visitors, so please contact us with as much notice as possible if you are planning to travel to Oxford to consult materials. Visits can normally be scheduled on Mondays to Fridays from 09.30, and the library closes for external visitors at 16.30. We will require you to submit a research and copyright form in advance of confirming any visit to consult our materials.

The main entrance is not level, but alternative entirely step-free access is available on request; please let us know if required when arranging your visit. Refreshment and (accessible) washroom facilities are available for booked-in visitors, and there is level access to these from the library.
