Museum
Oxford University Press welcomes visitors to book a tour to its museum, tracing the involvement of the University of Oxford in printing and publishing from the fifteenth century to the present day.
The museum is open Monday-Friday, except on English Bank Holidays and for the Christmas period. Specific time-slots are available for booking. See below for more information.
The museum begins with the first book printed in Oxford and includes historic printing equipment, such as the Dutch type John Fell donated to the university in the seventeenth century and a nineteenth century printing press. There are also many examples of our printing output, such as bibles and prayer books, and key publications from our catalogue, including the Oxford Almanack, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and the Oxford English Dictionary. Displays also focus on key figures from Press history, as well as our buildings and international offices.
The museum is located at our office on Great Clarendon Street in Oxford. Expert-led tours lasting around 30 to 45 minutes are available Monday to Friday and must be pre-booked with at least one working day’s notice using the link below. These are free of charge, but groups are limited to 20, and a limited amount of tours are available each week, so early booking is advised. Please note the main entrance is not level, but alternative entirely step-free access is available on request; please let us know if required when arranging your visit. All access and visitor information can be found on the booking page.
